The difference between a group and a channel on Telegram, and how to choose by your goal.
The basic difference
In a group, every member can write — it is a space for two-way conversation. In a channel, only admins broadcast and subscribers read. A group is for discussion, a channel is for distribution.
Size and interaction
A group supports up to 200,000 members with topics, polls and voice chats. A channel has no subscriber limit, but it offers detailed analytics, scheduled posts and silent messages.
You can use both
Telegram lets you link a channel to a discussion group: the channel broadcasts clean content, and the linked group holds the comments. For creators and businesses this is often the best approach.
How to choose
Want people to talk to each other — a group. Want to broadcast to a large audience and measure reach — a channel. Want both — a channel with a linked discussion group.
