Groups and communities
A Telegram group supports up to 200,000 members, with topics, polls and advanced admin controls. A WhatsApp group is smaller but tied directly to your contacts. For a large community choose Telegram; for a close circle, WhatsApp.
Channels and broadcasting
A Telegram channel allows unlimited subscribers with analytics and scheduling. WhatsApp channels are newer and simpler. For broadcasting to a large audience with data, Telegram has the edge.
Privacy and security
WhatsApp encrypts every message end to end by default. On Telegram, regular chats are encrypted to the server, and for full end-to-end encryption you use a Secret Chat. If automatic encryption on every conversation is critical, choose WhatsApp.
Which to choose
There is no single winner. Telegram is strong for large communities, bots and heavy files; WhatsApp is simple and everyone already has it. Many people use both — each for what it does best.
